Sports Premium

Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

Ferrars Junior School recognises the contribution that Physical Education makes to the health and well-being of the children at the school, and has made a considerable investment in the delivery of the P.E curriculum. We consider that an outstanding PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of children.

Supported by £9800 of extra sports funding from central government, FJS has invested in a specialist P.E teacher, Mr Allan Webb, who is the dedicated lead at the school. In addition, the staff and children are benefitting from the new equipment that has been purchased, which has enabled them to experience over 15 different sporting activities. FJS has also purchased its first ever minibus to enable it to enter inter-school competitions. This is a major investment for the school and has proven to be invaluable.

FJS also recognises the benefit of healthy competition and has entered tournaments in a variety of  sports in the coming year;  including football, hockey, netball, cricket and cross country. We also run  inter-house competitions for all year groups on a termly basis. All of which encourage the children to challenge, to compete, to win and lose gracefully and to try to be the best they possibly can be.

There are over 16 different clubs that our children can attend, both during lunchtime and after school. These include football, dance, hockey, netball and cricket.

Regular staff training is provided to teachers and Teaching Assistants to keep them abreast of new initiatives, ensuring that PE is a high profile subject.

In 2016, and for the second year running, FJS has been awarded the prestigious GOLD Sainsbury School Games kite mark for its commitment to Physical Education. The Sainsbury's School Games Mark is a Government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. FJS has forged links with various clubs across the town including Hockey, Athletics, Football and Rugby.

In addition, FJS are proud to report that Mr Webb has designed a P.E assessment planner that each child will be given to use throughout their school life. This will enable the children to track their achievements and progress, and give teaching staff a good coaching structure for each sport.

The P.E planner has been published and is available nationwide to all schools, for which FJS get a percentage payment to go towards the P.E offering at the school.
